Minesweeper
Uncover every safe cell without opening a mine. Numbers tell you how many mines touch a cell, and flags help you keep track.
Click or tap to open a cell. Right click, long press or Flag mode to place a flag. Click a number to open its neighbors when the flags match. Keyboard: arrow keys, Enter, F and C.
Open a cell to start. A number shows how many of its eight neighbors are mines, and an empty cell opens the area around it. Flag the cells you know are mines and open the rest. You win when every cell without a mine is open, and you lose if you open a mine. The first click is always safe.
Fair start, fast controls
Mines are placed after your first click, so it is never a mine and it always opens an area. Click a number to open its neighbors once the flags match.
Easy to hard, or your size
Play 9 by 9 with 10 mines, 16 by 16 with 40, or 30 by 16 with 99. You can also set the board size and mine count yourself. Best times are kept for each level.
Works on phones
Long press places a flag, or switch on Flag mode. The board scales to your screen, and nothing you do is sent anywhere.

Tip for your first moves
After the first opening, look for the numbers that equal the count of covered cells around them. Every covered neighbor of such a number is a mine. More in the strategy guide.
Frequently asked questions
How do I play Minesweeper?
Open cells to reveal numbers. Each number is the count of mines among the eight cells around it. Use the numbers to work out where the mines are, flag them, and open every other cell to win.
Is the first click always safe?
Yes. Mines are placed only after your first click, and the clicked cell and its neighbors are kept clear, so the first click always opens an area.
How do I place a flag on a phone?
Press and hold a cell for a moment, or switch on Flag mode and tap. Tapping a number whose flags match opens its remaining neighbors.
What are the board sizes?
Easy is 9 by 9 with 10 mines, medium is 16 by 16 with 40 mines, and hard is 30 by 16 with 99 mines. Custom lets you choose from 5 by 5 up to 40 by 30.
Is there a daily board?
Yes. Daily Minesweeper gives everyone the same board each UTC day, with a starting area already open.
Are my times saved?
Your best time for each level is saved in your browser on your device. Nothing is sent to us.
