Percentage change calculator
Enter a start value and an end value to see how much it changed in percent.
Calculated in your browser. Nothing you enter is sent or saved.
Percentage change is (new value minus old value) divided by the old value, times 100. A positive result is an increase and a negative result is a decrease.
The formula
Percentage change = (end value - start value) / start value x 100. The start value is the base, so the same two numbers give different percentages depending on which one you start from.
Examples
- From 50 to 75: (75 - 50) / 50 x 100 = +50%.
- From 75 to 50: (50 - 75) / 75 x 100 = -33.3%.
- From 200 to 210: +5%. From 210 to 200: -4.76%.

Frequently asked questions
Why is the change different in each direction?
Because the base changes. 50 to 75 is +50% of 50, while 75 to 50 is -33.3% of 75.
What is the difference between percent change and percentage points?
Percent change compares a value with its old value. Percentage points are the plain difference between two percentages. See the guide.
