Pyramid solitaire rules
Pyramid is a quick game based on pairing cards. You win by clearing the whole layout.
In Pyramid solitaire, 28 cards are laid out in a pyramid of seven rows, face up. You remove pairs of exposed cards that add up to 13, and kings are removed alone. Cards in the stock and waste can pair up too. You win when the pyramid is cleared.
The setup
Lay out a pyramid of 28 cards in seven rows (1 card in the top row, up to 7 in the bottom), overlapping, all face up. The other 24 cards are the stock, with a waste pile next to it.
Card values
Ace is 1, jack is 11, queen is 12 and king is 13. Number cards keep their number.
How to play
- A card is exposed when no card covers it.
- Remove a pair of exposed cards that add up to 13, such as a 6 and a 7 or a queen and an ace.
- A king is removed on its own, because it is worth 13.
- Turn over a stock card onto the waste. The top of the waste can pair with an exposed pyramid card.
- You win when the pyramid is cleared.
Tips
- Free the lower rows so more cards are exposed.
- Remember where each rank sits, so you can plan pairs.
- Do not use the stock too early.
