Snake game
Steer the snake to eat the red dots. Every dot makes it longer, and the game ends if you hit a wall or yourself.
Arrow keys or WASD to steer, Space to pause. On a touch screen, swipe on the board or use the buttons.
Press an arrow key (or swipe) to start. Steer the snake onto the red dot to eat it and grow. You lose if the head hits a wall or the snake's own body. Choose a speed, and try the no-walls mode where the snake comes out on the opposite side.
Works on any device
Play with the keyboard on a computer or with swipes and on-screen buttons on a phone. The board scales to the screen.
Two modes, three speeds

Fair and private
The red dot always appears on an empty cell, picked at random. Everything runs in your browser and only your best scores are stored on your device.

Tip for a higher score
Do not chase the dot in a straight line. Keep the snake in long, tidy sweeps so it never closes off an area it cannot leave. More in the strategy guide.
Frequently asked questions
How do I play Snake?
Steer the snake with the arrow keys or WASD, or swipe on a touch screen. Eat the red dots to grow. The game ends when the snake hits a wall or itself.
What is the highest score possible?
On this 20 by 20 board the snake starts with 3 cells, so it can eat 397 dots and fill all 400 cells. When the board is full you win.
What does the no-walls mode do?
In no-walls mode the snake passes through an edge and comes out on the opposite side. Only hitting itself ends the game. Try Snake with no walls.
Does the game get faster?
No. The speed stays constant at the level you choose. The challenge grows as the snake gets longer.
Are my scores saved?
